According to Gallup Korea’s annual poll, 40% of the Korean public claims a religion as of 2025, a slight increase from 37% in 2024. The proportion of religious Koreans peaked in 2004, at 54%, and has steadily decreased over the past two decades. People in their 20s are the most irreligious; as of 2025, only 24% claimed to be religious as of 2025.
The most widespread religion is Protestantism, accounting for 18% of the public. Buddhists make up 16% of the public, and Catholics, 6%. Among those without religion, 22% said they had previously been religious.
