Fewer, More Diverse Youth in South Korea: Data

According to the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family 성평등가족부’s 2026 survey, the youth population of South Korea - defined as individuals between 9 and 24 years old - totaled 7.4m, a decline of 46.5% from 40 years ago. 

That figure includes approximately 202k mixed-heritage youth, more than double the number in 2015 (82.5k). Relative to past years, South Korean youths are happier (69.4%), smoke and drink less (3.3% and 8.0% respectively), and are less stressed out (41.3%).
