According to a report released September 3 by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family 성평등가족부 to coincide with the 31st Gender Equality Week 성평등주간, men accounted for 3,205 of South Korea's 3,810 solitary deaths in 2024, a 5.3x higher rate than women, who accounted for 605 solitary deaths.

Two-thirds of male solitary deaths were men in their 50s and 60s. The same survey found men were more likely than women to say they had no one to turn to for help with housework during illness, to talk to when depressed, or to ask for a loan in case of emergencies.
