According to the March 8 report by the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service 건강보험심사평가원, an organ of the Ministry of Health and Welfare 보건복지부, 828 patients were treated in 2024 for drug addiction, up 48.7% from 271 patients in 2020.
The increase was particularly pronounced among the youth, with those in their 20s showing 139.1% increase in the same time period.
