An aging society means aging criminals. According to the annual report by the National Policy Agency 경찰청, seniors older 60 years old committed a higher proportion of crimes (18.8%) than offenders in their 20s (18.3%).

Crimes committed by seniors have increased steadily over the past five years, even as crimes committed by people in their 20s, 40s or 50s have decreased. Among age groups, seniors are most likely to commit homicide (23.2%) and theft (33.9%).
