According to the National Police Agency 경찰청, Suwon, Gyeonggi-do Province 경기도 수원 has the unenviable distinction of being the city with the most accidents caused by drunk drivers over the past five years. There was a nationwide total of 71,279 traffic accidents caused by drunk driving between 2020 and 2024; in Suwon alone, there were 1,705 such accidents, or approximately 1.6 per day.
Cheongju 청주 and Cheonan 천안 in Chungcheongbuk-do Province 충청북도, and Gangnam-gu District 강남구 in Seoul 서울 trailed Suwon. Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do Province 전라북도 전주 had the highest number of drunk driving-related fatalities, recording 26 deaths over the past five years. Overall, the number of drunk driving traffic accidents has been declining, from 17,247 in 2020 to 11,037 in 2024.
