According to an April 11 report by the Korean Educational Development Institute 한국교육개발원, the number of multicultural 다문화 children in Gyeonggi-do Province 경기도, South Korea’s most populous province that surrounds Seoul 서울, was 53,837 - an increase of 48% in the past five years.

The city of Ansan 안산, a Seoul exurb with numerous industrial parks, had the most multicultural children, with 8,434. Nearby Siheung 시흥 had 4,924, a 83.9% increase over the past five years, reflecting a sharp rise in immigration following the end of the COVID-19 pandemic.
