Former president Park Geun-hye 박근혜 전 대통령 was discharged from hospital to return to her hometown and implied she may return to politics.

Since being pardoned by President Moon Jae-in 문재인 대통령 on December 31, 2021, Park had been hospitalized in Seoul to recuperate from the imprisonment. On March 24, she was discharged and moved to her home in Daegu 대구. Moon sent flowers to Park, congratulating her on her discharge; Park sent a reply wishing Moon a good end of his term. President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol 윤석열 당선인, who as a prosecutor tried the criminal case that imprisoned Park, also sent flowers and said he planned to visit her. In a press conference outside of her home, the 70-year-old Park said she had “unfulfilled dreams” and wished to “add what little strength I have for Daegu and the Republic of Korea,” implying a return to politics. Yu Yeong-ha 유영하, a former prosecutor and Park’s personal attorney, is running for the mayor of Daegu in the upcoming Local Elections on June 1. Park made a public statement in support of Yu's candidacy.
