A study by Kyonggi University 경기대학교 has mapped out the frequency of eight major crimes in each district of Seoul, the first ever study to do so. The southwestern districts, including Gangseo-gu 강서구, Yeongdeungpo-gu 영등포구, Guro-gu 구로구 had the highest incidences of murder.
The richer districts in the southeast, including Seocho-gu 서초구 and Gangnam-gu 강남구, have high incidences of drug and gambling offenses, likely reflecting the nightlife of the area. On the other hand, sexual assault was somewhat evenly distributed throughout the city.
