On February 5, the Joint Task Force Against Stock Manipulation 주가조작 근절 합동대응단 raided the office of the Korea Economic Daily 한국경제, South Korea’s largest business newspaper. The task force alleged that five journalists, including an editor, traded stocks based on non-public information that they gathered through their reporting.
The KED issued an apology stating that it had either terminated the journalists in question or placed them on administrative leave, and that the journalists were acting individually. President Lee Jae-myung 이재명 대통령 shared the breaking news on his Twitter account, stating bluntly: “Stock manipulators will be destroyed. 주가조작 패가망신.”
