The Yoon Suk-yeol 윤석열 administration’s toxic sexism continued to cast a shadow in this presidential election. A joint exit poll by KBS, MBC and SBS found a large gender gap in voting patterns among voters in their 20s - and to a lesser degree those in their 30s - not seen among voters 40 and older.
Among women in their 20s, 58.1% voted for Lee Jae-myung 이재명, as compared to 25.3% for Kim Mun-su 김문수 and 10.3% for Lee Jun-seok 이준석. Among men in their 20s, however, only 24.0% voted for Lee Jae-myung, while 36.9% voted for Kim and 37.2% for Lee Jun-seok, who has built his political career on peddling misogyny. More men in their 20s voted for conservative candidates (74.1%) than men in their 70s and older (67.9%).
The split was also visible among voters in their 30s, where 57.3% of women voted for Lee Jae-myung while 37.9% of men voted for Lee Jun-seok. On the other hand, voters in their 40s and 50s voted solidly Democratic by more than a 3-to-1 margin.
