On April 1, Prime Minister Jeong Se-gyun 정세균 announced that the government had prepared a system for a “vaccine passport,” or a smartphone application that can easily show one’s vaccination status.

The vaccine passport, to be developed by SK Telecom SK텔레콤, will be blockchain-based. SK Telecom will begin its program by May 1, and the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency 질병관리청 will begin issuing certificates of COVID-19 vaccination in July.
